520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Examines the conversion of Zoroastrians to the Baha'i Faith in Yazd in the period from the 1880s to the early 20th century. A new mercantile elite emerged within the Zoroastrian community after the Parsis of India sent emissaries to their oppressed co-religionists in Iran. When religious reform failed to keep pace with social change, an ideational vacuum was created among this educated class which the Baha'i Faith succeeded in filling.
