This book centres on a fascinating letter written in the 19th century by Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Bahá'í Faith, which is addressed to the Christian world. It is historically exceptional to be in possession of a letter from the founder of a world religion addressed to the followers of an earlier one. The preface is by a Christian Minister from Edinburgh. The accompanying introduction and commentary indicate some of the many references in Bahá'u'lláh’s text to passages in the Bible, explain something of the historical context and put side by side certain quotations from both the Bible and Bahá'í Scripture. The introduction is entitled "Delayed Reception”, suggesting that such an historically important document, representing as it does a particular challenge to all Christians, has somehow gone astray in the post and has taken an excessively long time to reach its destination: the Christian community of all denominations. The book raises fundamental issues about how we understand Christ’s place in religious history and how Christianity relates to its own prophetic vision of humanity’s united future as ‘one flock with one shepherd’. Whether the reader is a Christian, of another faith or is simply interested in comparative religion, this book provides much food for thought. | ||
