Consul Albert Schwarz (1871-1931) was an extraordinary person. Born into a wealthy entrepreneurial family in Stuttgart, he was - like many others - quite a child of his time: a bourgeois, career-conscious and ambitiously oriented towards the customs of the Württemberg nobility. Between military and patronage, he served as the Norwegian consul and Wiirttemberg Kommer-zienrat connections to the highest circles. The spa Mergentheim would be without his commitment, not what it is today. And then Albert Schwarz was far ahead of his time. Together with his wife Alice, he accepted the faith of Bahá'ú'lláh (1817-1892) before the First World War. As chairman of the young German Bahá'í community, he contributed significantly with his knowledge and ability to the establishment of the Bahá'í religion in Germany. Albert Schwarz opened up a new world. Oriental Bahá'ís were frequent guests at Schwarz as well as US-American believers. The highlight was the visit 'Abdu'l-Bahás (1844-1921), son of the founder and head of the community, in Stuttgart and the surrounding area.
