Despite its comparatively small number of members of just over 5 million worldwide, the Baha'i religion is the youngest world religion. It arose in the 19th century in an Islamic context. The central figure is Baha'ullah (1817-1892). The Baha'i understand their religion as the universal religion for the present, which integrates the other religions as stages of progressive human development. In the country of origin, Iran, and in Arab countries, the Baha'i are still subject to strong pressure or even persecution. In Germany, the community has only 5,000 to 6,000 members, but it is surprisingly present and particularly involved in interreligious dialogue. The EZW text contains contributions on history, theology and the position on society from a religious-scientific, Christian and Baha'i point of view.
