This work is the first comprehensive work on babism, undertaken in domestic science after the 19th century. It addresses not individual components of babism, but an attempt is made as far as allow the scope of one work to explore babism as a holistic phenomenon. This creed, which is an independent religious system, founded in the first half of the XIX century. Sayyid ‘Ali Muhammad Shirazi, famous under the title "Bab" (Gate). Babism is inextricably linked with the Bahá'í religion, which arose on its basis. but in this work, the emphasis is on babism itself. This work contains essay on babism as an object of scientific study in Russia and Europe, reveals the historical context and the religious and philosophical background of its occurrence, the cornerstones of its creed, include a review of sources, considers the main texts of babism, their language, content, degree of study and accessibility for researchers, taking into account the richest manuscript collection of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. The text is accompanied by a large block of photographs of the most valuable manuscripts from this collection.

Настоящая работа представляет собой первый комплексный труд по бабизму, предпринятый в отечественной науке после XIX века. В ней рассматриваются не отдельные составляющие бабизма, а предпринимается попытка, насколько это позволяют рамки одной работы, исследовать бабизм как целостное явление. Данное вероучение, представляющее собой самостоятельную религиозную систему, основано в первой половине XIX в. Сайидом ‘Али Мухаммадом Ширази, известным под титулом «Баб» (Врата). Бабизм неразрывно связан с религией бахаи, возникшей на его почве. Однако в данной работе акцент сделан на собственно бабизме. Настоящая работа содержит очерк бабизма как объекта научного изучения в России и Европе, раскрывает исторический контекст и религиозно-мировоззренческие предпосылки его возникновения, краеугольные положения его вероучения, включает обзор источников, рассматривает основные тексты бабизма, их язык, содержание, степень изученности и доступность для исследователей с учетом богатейшей рукописной коллекции Института восточных рукописей РАН в Санкт-Петербурге. К тексту прилагается большой блок фотографий ценнейших рукописей из этой коллекции.
