American Art Medals, 1909-1995 : The Circle of Friends of the Medallion and the Society of Medalists

Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextSubject(s): Abstract: The author includes a detailed description of the 'Abdu'l-Bahá' medallion, a brief outline of the Bahá'í teachings and history, as well as a short biography of the sculptor of the piece, Louis Potter (1873-1912). Later he states (p. 32) that "Earlier writers have speculated fruitlessly on reasons for the sudden demise of the Circle of Friends of the Medallion after the Joan of Arc medal appeared. This writer suggests that the extraordinary praise heaped upon 'Abdu'l-Bahá' and Bahá'í in November 1912 may have troubled influential members who were less entranced with the new world faith." He offers a second possible explanation related to WW I.
