Romain Rolland's religious thought has been an enigma for many. This book tries, through the author's contradictions, to present its various facets and to delve into the recesses of this creed, the religious soul of the one who tirelessly sought the Absolute: an interesting and unusual itinerary which confronted him with different ideological and secular theories and which made himto seek in the distant East the roots of his mysticism to realize the existence of great mystics in his own religion of childhood, a study which allows him to express at leisure certain aspects of his own metaphysical and moral thought. But the originality of Nazy Alaie Ahdieh's book lies in Romain Rolland's encounter with the Baha'i faith in 1915, an encounter little or not at all known to his admirers, the first step in his quest for solutions in this period of war and of intolerance, which brings it not only into the concept of internationalism linked to religion, as the structure of the modern world from now on, but also of the unique source of all faiths, of their social impact, of the necessity of their adaptation to the new intellectual requirements and to the problems which arise for a humanity which experiences its collective growth, of the Law which presides over our common destiny: a certain organic vision of History. 1915 was the year Romain Rolland received the Nobel Prize for Literature. It is the centenary of this event which is celebrated in 2015. In our era of exacerbated radicalism, the thought of Romain Rolland, his open-mindedness which embraces all faiths, his personal notion of pacifism, is more than topical. and would deserve to be studied by the youngest as well as by adults, inducing us to get rid of the "fetishes" of the past
