Resurrection and Renewal : The Making of the Babi Movement in Iran, 1844-1850

Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextSubject(s): In: Studies in the Bábí and Bahá'í Religions, xxxiv, [2], 461, [1] pAbstract: A scholarly investigation of Bábí origins, based upon the author's doctoral dissertation and a wide command of the literature. While there are some questionable conclusions regarding the heterodox origins of Babism, and the Bábís' ultimate `failure', the work as a whole demonstrates that Babism was a coherent response to developments in Iranian Shiism, which made it a strong contender for revitalizing Iranian aspirations. This edition's new preface includes an extended discussion of millennialism; however, it also criticizes Bahá'í institutions and takes criticizes Moojan Momen's writing.
