Zíyárat Námih :The Tablet of Visitation

On May 29, 1892, the earthly life of Bahá'u'lláh, the latest Manifestation of God and the Founder of the Bahá'í Faith came to an end. The news of His ascension was promptly communicated to the Ottoman ruler, Sultan Abdu'l-Hamid, in a telegram which began with the words: "The Sun of Bahá has set." Soon after this calamitous event, His eldest son and appointed successor, 'Abdu'l-Bahá, instructed the preeminent Nabil-i-Azam, the indomitable chronicler of the Babi and Bahá'í history and one of the Apostles of Bahá'u'lláh, to select from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh those passages he deemed appropriate to constitute the Tablet of Visitation. Nabil accomplished this task with his usual devotion and ardor, but remained inconsolable after the ascension of his Lord. A few months thence, he took his own life. The Tablet of Visitation is usually recited in the sacred Shrines of Bahá'u'lláh and the Báb, and throughout the world on the anniversary of their ascensions.
