500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note A book written & illustrated by the author dedicated to the memory of the martyrs during the age of the Baha'i era. Their tales are told. Baha'i sources, journals from foreign personages who visited Iran in the late 19th century, documents & books written by the Shah & other government officials, books & articles written by foreign government reps that have recently been found and published, and the stories and memoirs of lay people in Iran whose lives were touched by these early believers - all were used for this book. The author also used a collection of Baha'i writings, original manuscripts, letters, documents, pictures that she and her husband, Dr. Ali Golestaneh discovered during their trip to Egypt. She first saw these documents, etc. at the home of Mohammed Reza Golestaneh's home in Cairo, Egypt. The events mostly transpired between 1882 through 1896, during the powerful and dictatorial reign of Naser od-Din Shah in Iran. Within this time frame, the Babi and Baha'i Faith enlisted many followers. The Shah and his sons inflicted a great deal of torment and injustice toward these early believers. The early passages of the book recount the events that transpired around the attempt on the life of Naser od-Din Shah on 15 August 1852. Old Tehran and the surroundings of the early Babi martyrs there, the Siyah - Chal (Black Pit) in Tehran, and the release of Baha'u'llah from prison in Tehran and his subsequent exile to Iraq are all included. Two imprisonments transpired within this time period, which are recounted in the remaining sections of this book. The first group of prisoners consisted of Mirza Abul Fadl and Hand of the Cause of God Ibn-i-Abhar. Their imprisonment and life stories are told. Eight letters written by Abul Fadl that were found in Egypt. The 2nd imprisonment in 1890 involved the trustee of the Huquq u llah Haji Amin and Hand of the Cause of God Mullah Ali Akbar Haji Akhund.
