500 ## - GENERAL NOTE

505 ## - FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE
Formatted contents note The present investigation is part of the Research Seminar course, of the Applied Social Research course, and has as its starting premise the realization of the fundamental importance of Religion for society, considered by many scientists as central to human existence. . It was from this observation that the interest in studying the role of Religion in the process of socialization of individuals arose, in today's society, in particular, in a smaller religion, taking into account the society where it was developed, the Portuguese society, strongly marked and influenced by a religion of great dimension, the Catholic religion. In this sense the choice, with respect to the minority religion, fell to the Bahá'i Faith.

This is how an example of the importance of Religion for man emerges, the minority religious community, object of scientific study, within the scope of this investigation, the Bahá'i Community. This community is characterized by being in a minority position, in relation to the global society in which it is inserted, the Portuguese society, which can decisively influence the process of socialization of its believers and their attitude towards the more global society. This was the aspect that I tried to explain, being possible to verify, in the course of this investigation, the influence of religion in the process of primary and secondary socialization of the individuals that constitute the technical base of the investigation.

The results obtained allowed, in a way, to corroborate the opinion of scientists, such as that of the anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski who wrote: “Religion gives man the hope of immortality and the ritual means to achieve it; reveals to him the existence of God or Providence and tells him how to establish communion with Him; it affirms the meaning of the world and the purpose of life, and, through the sacraments, allows man to obtain a fuller life. Religion gives man dominion over his destiny, just as science leaves the forces of Nature.”; or Durkheim, who was of the opinion that Religion was, and continues to be, an important factor of cohesion, as it ensures that people meet regularly to confirm their common beliefs and values, values that are human and political values like freedom,
