General note |
Empowering Youth to Achieve Their Potential: A Transformative Tool for Teachers, Coaches, and Youth Organizations

Are you concerned about how you can help youth face the challenges they face in today's society?

Would you like to help them find purpose in their lives and transform their relationships?

This second edition of the workbook Transformative Leadership for Youth is 50% longer than the first edition. It delves into the topics with greater detail and includes several new projects. The readings and projects combine to help youth respond to the many social challenges they face in today's world.

By focusing on both personal transformation and social action, and by discussing with their peers what they are learning, youth develop new capabilities and confidence in themselves

Who the Book is For

This book is for you if you work with youth in any capacity, as a:

Teacher
Coach
Facilitator of a youth organization
Parent
Leadership vs. Being a Leader

Often leadership is considered to be the exclusive calling of a few. Transformative Leadership for Youth examines how to exercise leadership without being in a position of authority or having a formal position as the head of a group. It shows youth how they can exercise leadership

at home,
at school
in teams, clubs and the organizations to which they belong.
What You Will Learn

Through participating in the readings and activities in Transformative Leadership, both you and the youth will internalize a conceptual framework consisting of six elements:

A spirit of service
The purpose of leadership: personal and social transformation
The fundamental moral responsibility: the investigation and application of truth
A conviction of the essential nobility of human beings
Transcendence
The development of capabilities
Together, you will also explore three types of categories:

Capabilities that contribute to personal transformation
Capabilities that enhance interpersonal relations
Capabilities that contribute to social transformation (bettering society, beginning with the groups and organizations in which you participate).
By consulting on the elements and 18 capabilities of Transformative Leadership and carrying out exercises to apply them, youth discover solutions to common problems they face in their lives, such as bullying behaviors.

In the process they acquire the concepts and capabilities they need to better direct their own lives and to contribute to an ever-progressing civilization, empowering them to exercise leadership wherever they find themselves.

Faced with the tremendous challenges that characterize this stage of human history, Transformative Leadership gives youth an idea of what they can do to build a better world –- starting wherever they are.

Drawing on her experience of over 25 years working with teachers, parents and youth, enriched by the many significant art projects developed by Jessica Kerr, Hernandez and Kerr have developed a workbook that truly empowers youth and motivates their transformation. |
