505 ## - FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE
Formatted contents note The book consists of nine chapters. Chapter One offers a general history of the city and its social life while Chapter Two narrates an early introduction of the Babi message in Kashan and the emergence of the Baha'i Faith. Chapters Three to Six deal with the shaping of the Baha'i community, lives of major Baha'i poets and authors of Kashan, Baha'i schools and education, and Western Baha'i visitors to Kashan. Chapters Seven to Nine are a close study of Baha'i families of Kashan region, identifying their origins and tracing family histories over several generations, roughly up to the middle of the 20th century. In these chapters special attention is paid to genealogical details of converts, their Muslim or Jewish backgrounds, circumstances of their conversion, Baha'i writings and correspondences addressed to prominent members of each family, as well as major upheavals and persecutions they encountered. Perhaps the most salient feature in these chapters, and throughout the book, is the emerging cohesion within the young Baha'i community that stood above the diverse religious and economic backgrounds of its members.
