Title Divisions and Authority Claims in Babism (1850-1866)
520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This is a continuation of the author's "Hierarchy, Authority, and Eschatology in Early Bábí Thought", in In Iran (Studies in Bábí and Bahá'í History ; v.3). MacEoin deals with the succession to the Báb, the claims by individuals to theophanic status in the period immediately following the Báb's execution, and the growing ascendancy and claims of Bahá'u'lláh. MacEoin concludes that the Báb fully intended Mírzá Yahyá Subh-i-Azal to be his successor, that he did not predict a succeeding Manifestation to arise for several centuries, and that Bahá'u'lláh's claims represent an extreme form of Shi'i and Bábí theophany.
