520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. To Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi : November 18, 1955 Your Majesty: On hearing that our mutual friend His Excellency John C. Wiley was going to revisit Iran during the course of his present journey abroad, I took the liberty of asking him if he would hand you this note. It concerns the Baha'is and their condition in Iran. I have many Baha'i friends in America. They are uniformly people of high standing and they command a great deal of respect in this country. The Baha'i problem in Iran is very much in the American press these days. This next year is an election year in America in which all sorts of issues are likely to be stirred. I venture to invite Your Majesty's attention to this matter only because of my own feelings of deep friendship for Your Majesty and your country and my concern over possible future developments. I wanted you personally to know that the Baha'i problem has now reached the point where it can, in my judgement, seriously affect Iran's great prestige with the American people and with the American Government.
