Survey data from a sample of Iranians in Los Angeles was used to test the theory that ethnic boundaries need not coincide with those of national origin when internal ethnicity exists. Since this immigrant group contains the four ethno-religious subgroups of Armenians, Bahá'ís, Jews and Muslims, the Iranians operated four distinctive ethnic economies.
