Social and economic development is a concept inherent in the Baha'i Faith. Its purpose is the transformation of the planet into a peaceful world community in which the dignity and the rights of every people are upheld and the benefits of each culture are available to all. Radio Baha'i, Ecuador traces the evolution of a project designed to assist in this process. Radio Baha'i was conceived as a way for Baha'is to keep in touch with one another, but it soon emerged as the primary link among all the country people, 'campesinos', of the Otavalo region of Ecuador. Based on such principles as the oneness of mankind, the value of every human culture, and participation. Radio Baha'i has become the main transmitter of local heritage, music and information in its broadcast area.

Published version of the author's doctoral dissertation, considerably revised for a general audience. It discusses the development assistance rendered to Ecuadorian natives by the first Bahá'í radio station.
